Post the first car you fell in love with. The absolute first car I can remember thinking “I like this” was an old Jaguar XJ that would often be parked on my walk to and from elementary school. This would have been around 2000-2005. Sometimes I would dream of one day owning it.
I am not sure what stood out about it to 10-12 year old COFL, but I think it was just the presence it had. Like nothing my or my friends parents had, that’s for sure. I lived in a pretty plain suburb, lots of new minivans.
Interestingly, this would have been around the time my truck came into my life. At 13 years old, I wasn’t too wild about it, I thought it was kinda a POS.
It’s been gone for some time, but using the magic of Google, I have some photos of the exact car. Show me yours!

The 1965 MG Midget I drove in high school.
Just, perfect. Every way possible.

I lived out in the boonies and it was so long ago that I don’t have a clear memory of what was the first one, but I do know that I thought the ‘69 Chevelle SS396 that one of my uncles had was extremely cool. I was also a big reader so getting the occasional C&D or Hot Rod helped to stoke the fire. I still remember reading about the 512BB in C&D or Project X in Hot Rod.

First car I vividly remember reading about was the Smart Car in... I want to say Popular Mechanics. I thought it was awesome.

There was a red 3rd gen Prelude down the street from me that I always looked up to. I bought a different one as my first car but ended up briefly owning that same red one awhile back.

Also an XJ. I set up a lemonade stand as a kid. But I lived in the middle of nowhere and the only person who stopped was a middle aged black woman in an XJ. I also 1) didn’t know how to make lemonade, and 2) didn’t have any sugar, so consequently, I squeezed a bunch of lemons into a pitcher of water and called it a day. She not only pretended to like my horrible acid water, but bought a second cup and insisted I kept the change. Which was amazing to me, because I knew how vile it tasted.
From that point on, I fell in love with Jags and became convinced that Jag owners were just a better class of people.

Jag owners were just a better class of people.
Well, you’d be right. A Jag XJ is one of my dream adjusting vehicles, it would really be a great power move.

I was five when my mum got her Mustang in 2000 . V6 and 5 speed. I think that's really what did it. This photo was taken in 2015, the only time she's ever let me drive it.

My dad’s ‘72 BMW Bavaria, sold when I was 4 or 5. I cried. Still want one. It was a slightly darker shade of blue than this one.

Damn! My parents had shit cars when I grew up.
My dad willingly bought an intrepid, new.
This is the only photo it, for the ad to sell it.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. When the ads came out in 2003 7 year old me was blown away that you could get an Impreza that had 300HP just like the WRC car. I still want one.

We had a 90s Crown Vic which became a Grand Voyager when my parents realized they had three kids that disagreed. Then the Mustang, a 2003 Town & Country, 2000s Ford Escape V6, Nissan Maxima, and a Ford Edge. So it was diverse, but not exactly "cool".

My older brothers 55 Ford truck with a big block Chevy and 4 speed.
Somthing like this but rougher. He was 17 years older than me so this had to be in the late 70s. First donut for me and that sweet sensation of speed.

When I was a kid my Mom had a green 1962 Benz with a three on the tree and fins for rear fenders. It was a glorious old car that smelled like leather. wood, and gasoline .

It’s a toss up between the red 4-speed ‘63 GT Hawk my dad had when I was a youngster, or the baby blue ‘83 LTD Crown Vic wagon my parents drove everywhere. Both made quite an impression on me. Incidentally, it was a GT Hawk that first got my dad's attention and got him into cars, too.

I couldn’t tell if it was a LUV or a Ford currier. They were all made in rustanastan.

In 6th grade I checked out a classic car book from the school library and fell in love with these 2 pages.
I haven’t purchased a De Tomaso as yet, but I did in fact find that book a few years ago and bought it.

Great question! I was super young, likely around 7 or 8 but my teenage neighbour Wade had the coolest high-school car. It was a 1972 Duster 340 with Cragars and a black spoiler. I used to just ride my bike up the street to go by his house and stare at the car. Never spoke a word to Wade himself haha but I remember realizing this car was not like the others on the street and that I liked it.
